Computer Art Technology

Jul 25, 2014 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

Presented by Andrés Lozano. As Andy Warhol’s disks recently recovered, we have restored a 5.25-inch floppy of Chris Marker, a famous french director who made the “pier” in 1962 (the remake is “12 Monkeys” by Terry Gillian). On this disk “5.25”, Chris Marker wrote (from scratch) a conversational program called “Dialector” with pictures and sound early features. He wrote in Applesoft Basic over the years, and it was completed in 1988. This artwork is one of the first created as we have known from a great artist of the twentieth century, it is now history and we will be very proud to “RUN” it again during KansasFest. Chris Marker died recently, and we have shown his program with the original Apple II machine in various exhibitions in France (for example, at the National Modern Art Museum Pompidou of Paris). We will offer a live chat on stage where individuals are invited to interact in real time with Dialector. Andrés Lozano will present you the story of the birth and the design of Dialector but also how to work with this new archeology of computer art.
